Tuesday, October 1, 2024 –Three lawmakers have raised security Concerns on the safety and security of President and the 291 MPs who signed for the impeachment motion against DP Rigathi Gachagua ,
Members of Parliament today asked the State to ensure their security as they process removal of Hon Rigathi Gachgua from office.
Taking to the floor of the House today October 1, Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed asked Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to ensure that the 291 MPs who signed the impeachment motion are kept safe all through the period of impeachment.
“Mr. Speaker, I ask you to make an assurance right here on the floor of the House that all the 291 MPs who signed this motion will be around beyond the impeachment day,” he urged Speaker Wetang’ula as Farha Maalim also supported.
Supporting his views was Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah who said there has been an attempt to issue life-threatening statements towards MPs allied with the impeachment.
“The security of MPs is paramount. We have seen it on social media, we have been told by certain quarters that before March of 2025, they said bendera itapepea mlingoti nusu.
“These are weighty issues. You must direct the IG of police who was approved by this house less than a month ago to ensure that when this house is sitting within the precincts of Parliament and even outside and including committees of this house, members are secured and even in their homes they are secured,” added Ichung’wah.
Maragua lawmaker MP Mary Wamaua who is allied to DP’s camp, while speaking outside the Parliament today, reminded the country about what Ruto promised on DP Gachagua.
He said the head of State, on assuming office, promised never to subject his deputy to pain and ridicule but what has changed.
“I want to remind Kenyans that the President once said that he will not allow his deputy to be troubled by anyone”.
Gachagua is facing an impeachment motion that he is accused of amassing immense wealth in the shortest time he has been in power.
