Monday February 1, 2021 -Police Spokesperson Charles Oyugi Owino has officially announced his interest in politics.
In his meeting with Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party delegates meeting held during the weekend, Owino said he will officially be in the race to become the next Siaya Governor.
The police officer has worked as a police spokesperson for many years and has been a fierce critic of the ODM Party mostly during general elections that are characterized by chaos and street battles.
“I never wanted to declare my political interest here today but because my father has reminded us, who am I not to show you direction. You are aware that next year people will declare interest in various positions and as a person who has worked in government, I will have clocked 50 years which allows me to resign,” said Mr. Owino.
He will be using his vast experience from the police service to manage the affairs of Siaya County if he sails through the nomination stage.
He also said he is more than ready to face off with seasoned figures like James Orengo whom he is sure will also be vying among other bigwigs.
Owino expressed his optimism of giving his competitors a run for their money because of his ability to express himself well in public rallies.
He therefore asked them to start shopping for alternative political positions if they wanted to remain relevant.
The spokesman further defended that he has never been close to the ODM Party because of the nature of his work which required him to completely keep off politics.
“Now that they are in the system, I have sat with and enjoyed the leaders’ company,’’ said Owino.
The state official has worked as the deputy inspector general as well as the Director of Communication Services in the National Police Service NPS 2018.
