MPs to earn retirement package of sh 100,000 every month

Members of Parliament have passed a bill that will see them are sh 100,000 every month as retirement pension.

Former legislators who served between 1984 and 2001 will be earning the amount but only if the Head of State Uhuru Kenyatta will sign the amendments into law when it will be brought before him.

The Amendments were made to the Parliament Pensions Act on Wednesday August 5th 2020 which MPs led by Orange Democratic Movement ODM’s John Mbadi supported saying this won’t cost Kenyans a lot after they(MPs) had rejected a clause that wanted this to stretch to 2010.

Minority leader John Mbadi.

According to Mr. Mbadi, the said MPs have been earning close to nothing after serving their people well what he said must be looked into. This was supported by all MPs including Minority Whip Junet Muhammed who is also an ODM member and Odinga’s top ally

“When you look at some of these MPs, when you see their shoes you feel sympathy for them, we must support this bill, any of us could be former MP anytime,” said Junet Mohammed.

Though this development has not been received well by members of the public, Kenyatta may ascend to it if ODM boss Raila Odinga whose troops are the one fronting the bill will push it.

Jubilee’s Aden Duale however warned that this could backfire now that already the parliament itself is not in good terms with the rest of the country. He also added that this could trigger other civil servants to also start agitating for the same treatment which this government might not meet due to financial constraints it is grappling with.

History has it that anytime MPs are discussing something that will benefit them, it is passed within a blink of an eye and therefore this has not come as a surprise to Kenyans.
