Leaders from both Kenya and Uganda have continued piling pressure on Ugandan authorities to free opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye after he was abducted in Nairobi City.
Activist Winnie Bianyima took to her X to urge the Yoweri Museveni-led government to unconditionally release the opposition figure from custody.
“I request the govt of Uganda to release my husband Dr Kizza Besigye from where he is being held immediately. He was kidnapped last Saturday while he was in Nairobi for Hon Martha Karua’s book launch. I am now reliably informed that he is in a military jail in Kampala. We his family and his lawyers demand to see him. He is not a soldier. Why is he being held in a military jail?” Winnie Bianyima.
In Kenya, Narc-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua who had invited Kizza for her book launch also urged government of Uganda to release her friend saying he had committed no mistake coming for her book event.
Ms Karua seemed to point an accusing finger at both President William Ruto and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni for the arrest of Kizza and scores of other human rights leaders.
As well, family of Besigye also demanded his release from the military jail in Kampala; his wife said he(husband) was abducted after attending Martha Karua’s Nairobi book launch.
