Daggers drawn as Ruto marks his territory ahead of Referendum

Sunday, February 7, 2021 -Building Bridges Initiative BBI politics have taken over the country and now its clear that two rival groups will be facing off each other in the Referendum.

Though Deputy President William Ruto has been flip flopping on the matter especially in the few past months, this is not the case anymore as daggers are now openly drawn. Ruto is ready to not only oppose but also to rally his troupes to shoot down the looming Referendum.

For the DP, this will be a sure way of gauging whether he is strong enoungh to face off with the ‘Dynasties’ in the final general election scheduled in 2022. And this will help him a lot politically to see how many numbers he has in the country ahead of the general presidential elections. He is going into this BBI race full throttle as a litmus test and even if he will be number two in the Referendum that is what he wants. It will help him to start tightening all loose ends head of the general race. Simply put. Ruto is not opposing BBI because its bad, he is doing it for political reasons.

While addressing Malindi residents last weekend, the second in command mentioned that Kenyans are concerned about putting food on their table and improving their living standards and not about Bills that are meant to create position for afew rich guys at the top.

“Kenyans are worried about the high rate of unemployment and not positions for our leaders. Every household has a young person who is done with school but has no job, these are the people who should be given priority and not leaders who are seeking leadership positions for themselves,” Ruto said, in an apparent reference to President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

This statement clearly shows which side of the divide the deputy president is standing. He is telling both Mr. Uhuru and Raila that their BBI is not wanted by Kenyans and that he will rally his supporters to reject and ignore it with the contempt in deserves.

Odinga and his foe-turned-ally Kenyatta have however been refuting such propaganda that the BBI was meant to spearhead Odinga’s 2022 succession politics terming Ruto’s sentiments as mischievous and misleading as well.

Ruto is hell-bent on popularizing his Hustler Movement which has since faced criticism from his political opponents who have accused him of radicalizing Kenya’s youth against the able class.

What is therefore head for Kenyans can be described as a life shrouded in political mystery but more obvious a political duel between Ruto, Uhuru and Raila.

Kenyans on their part have a task ahead to listen to those who are deceitful as well as those who are telling the truth. It will be hard to separate this from the other but granted, not everyone’s two cents worth is worth a cent to begin with, but it cannot hurt to hear one another. Upto you Kenyans!
