Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi has dealt a blow to Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’ s African Union Commission AUC campaigns.
In a live podcast seen by Kenyawide.com and which has rubbed some of Raila’s allies the wrong way, Dr. Mukhisa can be heard diminishing Odinga’s hopes to clinch the post.
Mukhisa argued that the Francophone nations will always vote as a family. And on the base, they start with 29 votes then add to the 19 Muslim no Francophones across Africa and the game is done.
“Always know that 29 Francophones will vote as a bloc whether you like it or not. Add some 19 Muslim countries from around Africa. Where are you going to campaign and get votes from if you are not part of them?” he posed.
Mukhisa once served as Secretary General UNCTAD in the United Nations for a full term and he is well informed with how foreign organisations work.
However, Kenyans allied to Mr. Odinga have taken issue with his opinion. For instance, Blogger Pauline Njoroge sought a clarification on how Kenya, in 2019, secured a win against Djibouti during the AU vote on UNSC.
“If indeed the Francophone block and the Muslim Countries always vote for their own and this is cast on stone as you claim, how then did Kenya secure a win against Djibouti during the AU vote on UNSC candidacy in 2019, where Djibouti only got 13 votes?”
Pauline described Kituyi’s statement as a pedestrian argument and which is a bit disappointing coming from a person of his calibre.
Head of Communication in ODM Party Philip Etale wondered why Dr. Kituyi would undermine Mr. Odinga who once supported his bid at the UNCTAD United Nations.
Also Member of County Assembly MCA Robert Alai, commenting on the same, sharply differed with Kituyi’s negative remarks on his party leader Raila Odinga.
