Law Society of Kenya LSK has warned the Supreme Court against banning qualified lawyers from discharging their Constitutional duties.
In a strict statement shared today Friday January 24, the LSK President, Faith Odhiambo, called out the Martha Koome-led court to respect the practitioners of law and cease from barring qualified lawyers because of their own selfish interests.
“As the LSK, we have a duty to protect the legal practice space in Kenya. The Supreme Court cannot turn away qualified Advocates from discharging their duty merely because they are employed by a personality members of the bench have personal differences with.
“Denying audience to the numerous blameless advocates working at the firm is akin to forcing Advocates to abandon their source of livelihood. The precedent being set by the Court is detrimental to the practice of law and infringes on the right of Kenyans to choose their representation,” read part of the statement.
Lawyer Faith, therefore, called on their members to action so that to defend the profession against this onslaught on legal practice.
The statement coming a year after the Supreme Court banned Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi from stepping foot in the Supreme Court. This is after the city lawyer had continuously blamed the leadership of the Kenyan courts for presiding over rampant corruption in the corridors of justice.
