- The Problem in Kenya is Leadership - February 5, 2025
Political heat has intensified in ODM Party as Deputy Party leader Senator Godfrey Osotsi demands respect for Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
What is happening in the ODM Party are two things – tribal division started and created by senior Luos in the party and two, an infiltration of UDA Party hand into ODM matters.
Now, this is what I feel is taking place in the Raila Odinga-led party – Luos like MP Peter Kaluma as well as Robert Alai are allegedly being funded by an outsider not from ODM to break up the party and so that Raila can lose the expansive Luhya Region ahead of the next general election.
Particularly, if Raila, by bad luck, loses the AUC contest slated February this year, high chances are he may revive his local politics against this regime. And because he will have been injured in the African election, he will bring his injuries back home. He will start his signature nationwide tours to maintain his firm grip on Western, Coast and Nyanza ODM voting blocs.
So to stop him early, I say it’s likely possible that an external hand is in the current wrangles in the ODM. The said external force wants to pit party members against each other. Quite possible in the dirty Kenyan politics.
Secondly, another reason that is creating divisions in the opposition party could be tribal hatred and a sense of entitlement. Luos just hate Luhyas. Not all Luos but a great section of Luos who feel entitled in the party want Luhyas out. They do not care whether Raila loses the Luhya bloc or not but, for them, they feel they own the party and they nolonger need outsiders.
We have had Hon. Peter Kaluma and MCA Robert Alai open fires of hatred on Sec. Gen. Edwin Sifuna, Governor Simba Arati and Vihiga senator Mr. Osotsi.
The simmering cracks now almost escalating to national podiums where rival factions can now not see each other eye-to-eye.
If party leader Raila Odinga cannot take back charges of his party, an outsider is taking control. The said outsider is using money to manipulate the current membership in the absence of Raila. Again with Sifuna having been vocal against the current regime, he could be made a target by the said external force.
Governor Gladys Wanga who is now the current Party chairman and her Kisumu Counterpart Anyang Nyong’o now the current Party leader are easy persons for the said outsider to frustrate using money and other dirty tricks.
Thank me later because where there is smoke, there must be fire!
