Sunday, February 14, 2021 – Members of County Assembly from Western Kenya want additional incentives on top of the car grant which President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration awarded them.
According to sources, the Ward representatives want sh 500,000 immediately put on their accounts if they have to support the Building Bridges Initiative BBI Bill.
They also demanded that the sh 2 million car grant be released by Monday February 15 before they decide on the fate of the Bill.
The MCAs were fetched from four counties of Buisa, Kakamega, Bungoma and Vihiga who met with Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Senator Mosses Wetang’ula.
Led by MCA from Vihiga County Tom Adingo, they explained how they are facing so many financial challenges and must be compensated to be able to stop the increasing Ruto wave in the region.
“We don’t have money to conduct public participation, and you cannot just go to the people empty handed,” said Adingo.
They further argued that the sh 300,000 as promised by Mr. Kenyatta was not enough and the a mount must be pumped up to sh 500,000.
A total of 270 MCAs attended the meeting and asked the BBI team to expunge the Clause that requires a Degree for one to vie for MCA seat.
