Tuesday, February 16, 2021 -Anyone who will utter the word Hustler(s) in the country risks being jailed for five years under the newly proposed law.

Through the National Assembly Security Committee, MPs have drafted a bill whose aim is to stop those propagating class division in the country through risky narratives. Those found culpable will be sentenced for five years or required to pay sh 5 million in fines.

In the Bill, civil servants who will be found guilty of this offence risk being sacked or and completely banned from vying for any political seat in the country.

Commenting on the development, Kiambaa legislator Paul Koinange clarified that the Law will bring sanity in Kenyan politics which seems to be heading towards a very dangerous direction.

He claimed that the Hustler Gospel may plunge the country into chaos since it is purposely fueling a ‘class war’ among Citizens.

“A person who has been dismissed or removed from office for contravention of sections  62 (1) and 62A (1) is disqualified from holding any other state or public office.

“A person who utters words intended to incite feelings of contempt, hatred, hostility, violence or discrimination against any person, group or community on the basis of the social status of a person commits an offence liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding sh 5 million or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or both,” the drafted law reads in part.

MP Peter Kaluma from the Security Committee, weighed in saying they also aim to grant the National Cohesion and Integration Committee NCIC enough powers to investigate and prosecute anyone who is fueling mayhem through inflammatory political remarks.

He even proposed that the five year jail term was not enough and this could be pushed up to a life imprisonment if found guilty.

On their part, DP William Ruto allies led by Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua said they will vehemently oppose the Bill which, according to them, was being strategically customized to punish Ruto’s side.

“We are not worried at all as the constitution clearly provides situations whereby the DP can be removed from office and not through the backdoor,” he responded.

In January this year, the NCIC claimed that those preaching the Hustler Narrative wanted to divide the country into ‘haves and have nots’ at the time the country is grappling with volatile campaign atmosphere.
