West Pokot becomes first Rift Valley county to pass BBI Draft Bill

Tuesday, February 16, 2021 -First Rift Valley County has endorsed the Building Bridges Initiative BBI draft Bill.

West Pokot now joins five other counties which have passed the BBI 2020 Constitutional Amendment Bill now at a critical County level.

Among the Counties which have already approved the draft Bill are Siaya, Narok, Trans Nzoia, Kisumu, Busia, Homa Bay and now West Pokot. In Busia, for instance, all the MCAs accept one supported it.

Our sources disclosed that only nominated MCA Bernard Odako from Budalang’i Constituency where Hon Ababu Namwamba hails from opposed the Bill during the voting exercise which was presided over by Speaker Bernard Wamalwa.

After the move, Wamalwa promised to send the approved Bill and its notes straight to his Senate counterpart Kenneth Lusaka.

“As the assembly, we have done our part, the remaining work is for the public to decide through the ballot during the referendum plebiscite,” said Wamalwa.

Only one county – Baringo – so far has rejected the Bill.
