Wednesday, February 24, 2021 -Everyone is asking what next for Deputy President William Ruto after the Building Bridges Initiative BBI Draft Bill surpassed the 24 threshold Counties mark?
On Tuesday February 23, more counties, many perceived to be from his own region of Rift Valley as well as Mt. Kenya, supported the Bill leaving the DP at a very unfortunate position. He has, hitherto, not been able to open his mouth.
Political analysts in the country have claimed the Super Tuesday development was a huge blow on his side which he must take time to recover from.
Renowned tele-Political analysts Mark Bichachi and Barrack Muluka have since locked horns on the matter each having his stand on the whole issue.
The former has predicted that when Ruto resurfaces from his silence, he may stick to his win-win political stance by denouncing he never ever opposed the BBI. This will definitely leave him some breathing space to stretch a bit and reposition.
Bichachi added that this will be a possibility because, in their previous public rhetoric, Tangatanga used to blow both cold and hot; they didn’t want to take a clear stand because they were not sure of their future.
“His next move is to stop his pretense and come to the realisation that for him to be a leader, he doesn’t need to go against even that which is good,” said Bichachi.
He also claimed that Ruto’s side had finally been cornered at the worst time and that this may haunt him upto the 2022 ballot.
“They play cloak and dagger games with the president. They say they respect him and then change tune and criticise the same government that they are in. I also don’t see them refraining from this moving forward,” he added.
According to Mr. Bichachi, it was interesting to see Mr. Ruto and his team, at some instances, carelessly oppose the BBI without considering its merits for the people of Kenya. This will however be a very risk script to continue with after the Super Tuesday verdict made by the MCAs countrywide.
“If today, BBI did not pass the threshold, him (Ruto) and his allies would come out to criticise the bill, saying that it does not appeal to the public,” he stated.
And in a softened rejoinder from a different platform, DPs aide Barrack Muluka said BBI is neither good nor bad and its effects will be both positive and negative.
“BBI is a double-edged sword. After it goes through it will cut both ways. The same way one person wants to use it, another one can also use it,” stated Mr. Muluka.
Muluka then said there is no need to keep fighting it and also not the best to be praised as if it will be solving the rest of the problems Kenyans were left with since colonial time.
Reacting moments after it passed the threshold, on his part, Senator Kipchumba Murkomen cautioned a section of politicians from being overjoyed with a race that had no competitors.
