Sunday, February 28, 2021 -Uhuru Kenyatta’s influence in the next general election might not be significant at all and Kenyans still believe the contest will be between Raila and Ruto.
Though believe you Uhuru will want to stand for something when the time to leave office comes, I think his choice might not necessarily win the day. Kenyans might ignore and focus on the two horses.
There are factors any keen political analyst can look at and reason the way I am reasoning; first Uhuru by himself believes he is a powerful man from the fact that he is the sitting president; and two he believes that he won elections twice and therefore, just like former US President Barrack Obama, he too can command who should Kenyans elect next. Unfortunately, all the two cases are wrong.
“I intend to ensure that those who will take over power will not exploit and steal from Kenyans. I want the next government to foster unity among our people not divide them,” he said as quoted by The Standard on February 11.
Firstly, Uhuru Kenyatta cannot be equated to Mr. Obama and for any case, Obama’s first choice of 2016 – Hillary Clinton – badly lost the election to Donald Trump; he would later on gamble with Joe Biden in 2020 who just won by miracles of Lord our God.
The same fate is awaiting Mr. Kenyatta if he tries to force Kenyans on someone. He must be very keen to choose a popular person to succeed him but if he will come up with just anything thinking Kenyans will respect him, it may turn up to be an embarrassment that will haunt him throughout his retire period in Gatundu.
The 2022 race which Dr. William Ruto has vowed to win will see Raila Odinga participate and few other jokers. I believe Uhuru will not play part. He must leave the ground leveled so that no one accuses the State of applying extra State machinery against the other.
Anyway, what Kenyans will be interested to see is how Raila Odinga will lock horns with ‘stubborn stain’ William Ruto in the 2022 race. I bet it will be a duel of its kind. Lets us meet there.
