Wednesday, March 10, 2021 -Former Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party members who left the party due to different reasons have refused to rejoin the party.
Fresh reports show that efforts to bring them back have hit a dead end as most of them argue that they have not been given any reason to come back.
They claimed there are so many un ironed differences that must first be resolved by party leadership before they can accept the request to come in again.
Some of those who spoke to the media explained that it was wrong for ODM leadership to only think about them when elections are at the corner which means the are being invited so that they can be used during campaigns and vote for their presidential candidate and after that they be abandoned again.
Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi who has been mandated to seduce back the defectors reported how the leaders had raised pertinent issues to him which they need addressed.
Among those targeted in the drive are former Rarieda Member of Parliament Nicholas Gumbo, Kisumu East Member of Parliament Shakeel Shabbir, Ugenya Member of Parliament David Ochieng and Kisumu West Member of Parliament Olago Aluoch.
Weighing in on the matter, Gumbo confessed having been in contact with Mr. Wandayi for sometime now and that among the issues he raised is fair and credible nominations which the party has lacked for long.
“I can go back to the party only if assured of credible nominations. But fair primaries in ODM are not easy due to vested interests,” Gumbo said.
Wrong leadership, according to Mr. Gumbo, makes the main reason some individuals have been defecting and that there is no point of reporting back into a hostile environment.
