Sunday, March 28, 2021 -Members of Parliament as well as Senators from the vote rich Mt. Kenya Region don’t want the Building Bridges Initiative BBI Bill amended in Parliament.
Fresh reports which have reached Homenews desk now confirm that the move to want to amend some sections in the Bill would harm the people from Mt. Kenya who wanted to bank on the document to get more Constituencies hence resources.
It is noted that this might end up denying the region 15 additional Constituencies what looks not so good for them and their people.
MPs Ngunjiri Wambugu of Nyeri Town, Murang’a Woman Rep Sabina Chege, MP Kigumo Wangari Mwaniki and her counterparts Nduati Ngugi (Gatanga) and Kathuri Murungi (South Imenti) are among the legislators who don’t want the bill amended. Also Rahim Dawood (North Imenti), Cate Waruguru (Laikipia), and Peter Kimari (Mathioya) have argue d that the Parliament cannot bring even a comma into the Bill.
The Raila-Uhuru led BBI Bill is proposing 70 new Constituencies what those from Mt. Kenya believe will definitely determine the fate of the looming referendum.
Our sources have reported that the Bill will be tabled by a joint committee from both Houses led by Muturi Kigano and Okong’o Omogeni.
This development, according to political pundits, will trigger another rivalry between Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta with William Ruto’s force playing a determinant factor.
