Kenya hits back at UK Ban, Imposes Similar Restrictions

Saturday, April 3, 2021 -Kenya has now banned any free travels from the United Kingdom in what it has termed a reaction to what the UK government announced against them yesterday.

Kenya was put on ‘Red List’ by the UK government as part of measures to contain the spread of Covid-19; but a day later it also imposed similar measures through an official circular issued by the Ministry of Foreign affairs.

British PM Boris Johnson was in Kenya in March 2017, for talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi.

“All passengers originating from or transiting through UK airports will now be required to go through mandatory 14-day isolation at a government-designated facility at their own cost upon entry into Kenya,” partly read statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

For this decision, Kenyan government argued that the UK’s move to ban travelling from Kenya would affect both nations negatively especially on matters trade.

Kenya added that the long and healthy relationship between the two nations had to be respected and that the UK ban was particularly uncalled for.

Among the sectors Jubilee Government has singled out as delicate and which will definitely be affected on both ends include health, education, security, trade, tourism and travel.

Foreign Affairs Ministry described the decision from the UK as not only discriminatory but also unwarranted and disturbing in nature.

They challenged their UK counterparts to therefore back up their claims with scientific evidence if they were to be taken serious.

Kenya further argued that despite other countries having banned UK in the past, Kenya was among the few nations that maintained its warm relationship with them all through especially on matters that required State cooperation.
