Friday, April 9, 2021– Central Organisation of Trade Union Secretary General Francis Atwoli is back into office following his Friday election victory.
Atwoli was declared the winner of an election conducted at Kisumu Tom Mboya College of Labour and attended by other member unions in the country.
The vocal trade unionist since 2001 has never lost any trade elections alwyas held in Kisumu.
Immediately after learning of his victory today, he stepped forward with bags of promises to the poor workers in the country.
“I promise to service you with all my might and strength and not betray the trust you have bestowed in me,” Atwoli said.
There was however no shortage of accusations from those who had showed interest in the same seat. The Kenya National Union of Nurses KNUN Secretary General Seth Panyako accused Atwoli of using unorthodox means to force opponents to back down.
Several other unions which participated are, Kenya National Union of Domestic Workers, Kenya Concrete Ceramic Tiles Interior Design Workers Union, Public Transport Workers Union, Rift Valley Workers Union, and Kenya Union of Secondary Non-Teaching Staff.
Calls to postpone the election from some quarters could not bear fruits and the election had to go on as scheduled.
