Tuesday, April 13, 2021 -Orange Democratic Movement and Jubilee Party will be clashing in the upcoming Bonchari by-election scheduled May 18, 2021.
Despite preaching unity through their Handshake, Uhuru and Raila have all fielded their candidates for Bonchari by-election; a move that may further strain their already shaken relationship.
ODM Party, for instance, has forwarded former Energy Petroleum Regulatory Commission EPRA Deputy General Pavel Oimeke while Jubilee Party has fronted Zebedeo Opore- area former MP.
It will be an interesting rare show as the two bigwigs flex their muscles against each other for a seat that previously belonged to ODM Party just like Garissa Senate seat which Jubilee forced its way through unorthodox means to run away with. Yusuf Haji’s son Mr. Abdul Haji would then be declared senator on Jubilee ticket unopposed.
Jubilee and ODM Parties are seemingly not keen to keeping the interests of the Handshake as 2022 nears, a sure signal that things are not quite good between them.
Sources reported that Jubilee wanted ODM Party to pull out of the Bonchari race same to ODM wanting the Jubilee to do the same what has resulted in both fronting candidates.
“These are discussions going on because, honestly, Jubilee has the stronger candidate. We will persuade them to drop their candidature in favour of Jubilee,” Kutuny was quoted.
ODM’s John Mbadi while reacting to the development, noted that even if the two parties went for the seat separately, the Handshake would not be affected in anyway.
One Kenya Alliance comprising ANC Party, Wiper Party, KANU Party and Ford Kenya have agreed to gang up against ODM if it will not be stepping down for Jubilee.
