Special Crime Unit SCU today Friday August 14th pounced on police officers who are believed to be involved in a spate of city crimes.
It was earlier reported that a multi-agency group which had officers fetched from both the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI and the Crime Unit formed recently hunted down the three suspected officers and finally managed to arrest them.
They arrived at the Kamukunji Station, held a brief meeting with the station’s OCS where they then summoned the suspects but drama ensued immediately they refused to surrender. They were, however, forcefully disarmed and arrested.
It is reported that the accused who are named city criminals will be presented at Kibera Courts next Monday August 16th.
The three are accused of being part of the criminal gang terrorising residents around Kibera slums and the city.
Our sources indicated that this is not the first batch of officers to be arrested. There has been another group from the station which was also arrested and arraigned sometime back.
This is happening hot in the heels of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s stern promise to end fraud and crime in the city.
Last Wednesday August 12th, for instance, five Simcard fraudsters were arrested by SWAT officers and eventually charged in court.
Unfortunately, their lawyer who tried to pursue their release was also caught in a mess after he tried to bribe investigators with a whopping sh 900,000 in his efforts to see the criminals released without charges.
