Veteran Columnist Philip Ochieng Dead

Wednesday, April 28, 2021 -Renowned literary scholar Philip Ochieng has succumbed to Pneumonia at his home in Awendo.

Confirming the sad news of the former long time Sunday Nation columnist, the family revealed that their kin was no more and lost life while at Awendo Migori.

Ochieng who was admitted at Ombo Mission Hospital was reportedly discharged last week after his condition appeared to improve.

Several Kenyans especially in the writing and literature industry have taken to Twitter to mourn the late as a man who was loved by many and who took his literature work serious. Before becoming a columnist, Ochieng first worked as an editor at the Nation Media Group.

On his part, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga mourned the author as legendary writer with an unmatched prowess of linguistics.

“Through the power of the pen, Philip spoke to the most powerful and moved the society into action,” Raila said.

Journalists led by Radio Africa Group Digital Editor Oliver Mathenge described Ochieng as a man whose pen gave shape to the media sector.

His sentiments were echoed by Sports Journalist Carol Radull who noted that Ochieng was a role model and a professional father figure.

“He was my “work Dad” at my very first real job at Camerapix when I was barely out of school,” she grieved.

Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party Communication Director Philip Etale termed this loss as heartbreaking to the entire country.
