Friday, May 7, 2021 -Deputy President William Ruto has spoken on the move by his lieutenants in Parliament to pass the Building Bridge’s Initiative BBI.
Through his Twitter handle on Friday May 7, the second in command predicted that whatever that had taken place in Parliament where some of his team members defied him to vote Yes, would replicate itself in the Senate too.
“Being a democracy, the national assembly voted on the Constitution amendment Bill and so will the senate. When the people’s turn comes they too will vote and we will march on, ” read part of Ruto’s statement that showed he was resigning to the defeat.

The DP spoke this after a total of 200 MPs, on Thursday May 6, shockingly voted to pass the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2020. Interestingly, among the 200 who voted in support of the Bill, were his own team mates.
In his brief reaction to the unfolding, on Friday evening, Ruto said Kenya being a democratic nation, every citizen same to leaders have a right to do that which they want as along as it’s within the law. He added that those who had voted Yes on BBI had done no mistake.
Ruto continued by urging the nation to respect divergence voices especially as the country heads towards a Referendum.
“We should respect everyone’s decision & accept democratic outcomes; all views makes us stronger together,” he tweeted.
Notable figure in DP Ruto camp who voted in support of the Bill is Bahati Constituency MP Kimani Ngunjiri.
Ngunjiri, in his statement shortly after voting, defended that before he did so he had communicated it to his boss William Ruto.
