Through his little known Peoples’ Empowerment PEP Party, Mr. Kuria managed to beat his parent Jubilee ruling party with a landslide number. His candidate George Koimburi gave competitors a run for their money to emerge top.

Though the party was new on the ground, how it broke the ceiling to emerge top has shocked the ruling Party led by President Uhuru Kenyatta hence changing the succession arithmetic in Central Kenya.

Jubilee Party’s problems now seem to be piling every day following these results in its perceived stronghold.

Since the win, MP Kuria has exuded confidence on how his party is now taking over the Central Region with next stop being in Kiambaa Constituency where MP Paul Koinange died leaving the seat empty. Kuria has already fronted Raymond Mwaura to vie on PEP ticket.

The MP who is also a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto took to his Facebook page with claims that he had also recorded another resounding victory in Gaturi Ward where Esther Mwihaki was elected MCA through his PEP Party.

Juja election saw Kuria win despite the Jubilee Party mounting a spirited campaign machinery behind Ms Susan Njeri Waititu, widow of former Juja MP Francis Munyua Waititu alias Wakapee. Unsatisfied Njeri, after the defeat, started demanding for a vote recount.

“This is so unfair. Ballot papers marked in my favour were dumped in polling stations and despite alerting the IEBC, they did nothing about it. All I want is fresh counting of the votes and I will accept defeat if all votes are counted fairly,” she lamented on Wednesday.

She has since promised to exploit all legal processes to overturn the results announced by the electoral body – IEBC.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, at some point, was forced to resume counting process after chaos had disrupted the exercise for close to six hours.

Koimburi finally managed to garner 12,159 votes against Jubilee’s Susan, who followed him with only 5,746 votes.
