Tuesday, June 29, 2021 -Teachers employer has kicked off talks with the teachers union KNUT just a day after the official exit of Wilson Sossion.

Fresh reports reaching this desk show that TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia has already reached out to the teachers union new leadership for talks to be held at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi starting immediately.

Sossion finally tendered his official resignation from the giant teachers union after years of service. During his tenure, he had developed bad blood with the Teachers Service Commotions TSC which in return stopped remitting funds to the union in its bid to frustrate the secretary general out of office.

Sossion, while leaving KNUT on Friday June 25, 2021 at Windsor Hotel, urged TSC to start respecting teachers by listening to them now that he is nolonger an impeding factor.

He further asked the State to treat teachers with dignity and give them their genuine dues in time so that they can also enjoy their practice.

There has been a prolonged tussle between the two factions where KNUT led by Sossion wanted teachers promoted and salaries increased as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement CBA 2017-2021 which is now expiring by July 2021.

“There is currently no new CBA for teachers. They will, therefore, miss their salary increment and promotions,” Sossion recently lamented while heaping pressure on TSC to face teachers before the deadline arrives.

How they will be agreeing and if this will be implemented now remains just between the new KNUT office and TSC.

The newly elected Secretary General, Collins Oyuu, in his acceptance speech, indicated the willingness to engage the teachers’ employer through talks; a complete departure from Sossion’s style of leadership which was characterised by chest thumbing and incessant industrial strikes.
