Monday, July 12, 2021 -National Treasury has allocated millions of shillings for both Orange Democratic Movement and Jubilee Parties.
Fresh reports indicate that the Treasury had released the political parties cash ahead of the 2022 campaigns. As Raila Odinga’s ODM Party received sh 165,252,076 million, Jubilee Party, on the other hand, pocketed a staggering sh 353, 856,428.
Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu defended the move saying only two parties ODM and Jubilee met the Constitutional threshold for the cash.
“Only two political parties have met the constitutional threshold to get the public money through the Political Parties Fund,” Anne Nderitu stated.
The Registrar further clarified that other parties which think this move was unfair are allowed to make an official appeal and their case could be heard.
The development has left other lesser parties in the cold despite the fact that they are also gearing towards fronting presidential candidates in the next elections.
Also Deputy President William Ruto whose contribution in Jubilee Party was immense will definitely not be at ease now that his relationship with his boss is not so good one.
Through the Gazette Notice seen by Homenews.co.ke, the funds released will be catering for the three quarters – second, third and fourth. Law allows the parties to utilize the cash in running their campaigns.
The exchequer details that Raila’s Party is entitled to sh 260 million while Uhuru’s Jubilee is supposed to receive sh 500 million.
This particular funding is coming at the time NASA coalition parties are fighting for the last disbursement which they claim ODM unfairly stuck with it.
