Tuesday, August 3, 2021 -Hotel and restaurant owners have been warned against faulting Covid-19 rules even as they are allowed to gradually resume operations.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala today Tuesday August 3 addressed that players must adhere to guidelines or risk losing their one year trading licenses.
All eateries will therefore be required to make sure that all their customers put on their face-masks with one meter social distancing observed.
“Despite of double vaccines, we must wear masks and keep social distance. Our position after the emergency meeting of Cabinet on Covid-19, we are very clear that every sector needs to be on the forefront. Enforcement is the key.
“Enforcement must be done by the industry itself. We have agreed there will be self-regulating. We will have an enforcement team led by Tourism Regulatory Authority,” Balala said.
He also introduced the shaming list where government will list all risky joints and make them publicly known so that customers can keep off such places.
“We have agreed, and especially for pubs and bars which break the law, we shall shame them so that people do not destroy the sector. We will take action on those individuals. Even their licenses will be cancelled for one year,” he added.
Balala, however, observed that there have been some hotels and restaurants which have observed Covid-19 protocols upto the standards required.
Kenyans are serving an extended curfew hours following Friday July 30 address by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe who also confirmed that the country risks deadly Indian variant of Covid-19 if enough safety precautions are not followed.
