Deputy President William Ruto has sharply differed with his boss Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga over the debate surrounding ‘the winner takes it all’.
Speaking to Joe Ageyo on Citizen Tv live show on Thursday August 27, Dr. Ruto said he had a different view on those who lose elections saying they should be contended with their loss and go back to the drawing board for another day.
According to Ruto, forcing space for election losers was equal to sabotaging the constitution and that the winner should be allowed to lead the country as the loser tales the oversight role.
To have credible elections, Ruto said Kenyans should respect the verdict and allow the man who won the election to run the show without interference from anyone else.
Ruto also took issue with calls for amending the constitution saying what currently matters most is service delivery.
He asked Kenyan to get priorities right rather than speak about changing the laws at the time when the country had other important things to deal with.
“This should be about Kenyans and not always a government position. The best of my knowledge we have not discussed about our position on changing a constitution,” he said.
He added that he is yet to be persuaded on what areas in the constitution need to panel beating. saying the hullabaloo was about creating positions for election losers.
DP Ruto:To my knowledge, the push to amend the constitution is by leaders, not by the people.Kenyans are more concerned about livelihoods… Are you aware that Jubilee is the only political party without a position in BBI?
