Friday, August 6, 2021 -Replaced Kenya Film Classification Board Chairman Dr. Ezekiel Mutua has reacted to his dismissal letter.
Through his Facebook account on Friday August 6, the CEO stated in details how he had achieved a lot while serving in the creative organization whose mandate is to check morals in the creative sector.
“Yesterday all SAGAs under the Ministry of ICT signed the 2021/22 PC Vetting with CS Joe Mucheru as required by law. I led the KFCB team of Directors and Senior managers. From the presentation, KFCB has over performed in all its targets for the FY 2020/21, in some instances scoring over 300%
“For instance on issuance of film licenses, the Board issued over 4700 film licenses last FY. When we took over the function from DFS in 2016, the highest number of filming licenses issued was 100. Yes 100.
“In some of the PC targets signed with the CS last year, KFCB had done almost 400%. The Board had over-performed in all the targets set and signed with the CS last year. None was below 100%,” partly read his long statement.
He then took pride in his mission of strictly fighting for only clean screen content during his stay at the helm of the KFCB.
“Yet, media review of the performance is about perception or differences with creators of dirty content. I think no sane person can celebrate the explicit content exhibited in different platforms in our media today, especially where children are likely to be watching or listening. It would have been a dereliction of duty if we didn’t call out the unpalatable content creators and promote clean content.
“Fortunately, we have managed to create public awareness that has made parents more vigilant and brought in clean content Ambassadors from all sectors of the society,” Mutua added.
Mutua urged content creators to always keep in mind the future of this country saying anything else will continue to erode the generations to come.
Actor Erick Omondi has been on the forefront warning the Chairman to be careful not to take back creative industry to the dark days when anything involving women and men was termed immoral. He went on to give him an ultimatum to reduce his friction with content creators.
