Kenyans woke up on a trending thread over the Covid-19 status of Deputy President William Ruto.
On Sunday August 30th, social media was awash with comments on the health status of the DP where Kenyans wondered if the second in command had bothered to undergo testing due to his nature of work.
Ruto has been capitalizing on the Corona scare to walk around and popularize himself even as the rest of the country remained indoors, and when asked about it, his communication office responded with a short answer.
“I don’t know, that is a personal matter,” Emmanuel Talam responded to Kenyans who had sought to know about it.
Already President Uhuru Kenyatta and his newly found ally Raila Amollo Odinga have both undergone testing and publicly announced their results as negative. In the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Johnson Boris also made public his status.
According to netizens back home, the deputy president should have been the first person to be worried about his status since he has been traversing the country everyday holding both round table and public meetings with hundreds of delegates. For instance, in his Karen residence alone, he has hosted hundreds in a short time before he toured Mombasa where he was seen hugging people including the 11 year old girl who handed him a portrait.
The behavior of politicians disregarding Covid-19 guidelines has made Kenyans who run hotels and bars even angrier wondering why the government would impose heavy measures to them while, on the other hand, playing double standards with political class which has been left to carry on with their activities as if there was no Coronavirus pandemic.
Not just Ruto, his boss Uhuru Kenyatta has also been seen holding meetings, though very few, same to the Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party leader Raila Odinga who has also been captured at his Capital Hill offices with guests.
