Tuesday, August 17, 2021 -A mother who received a whopping sh 271,200 wrong M-Pesa money and refused to refund has been sentenced.
Ms Elizabeth Karimi Muthoni received the amount in her M-Pesa agent line and on noticing the huge balance in the account and followed by the owner, she still refused to refund and instead chose to switch off the line.
In Court papers seen by Homenews.co.ke, she erroneously received the cash into her account from Bakar Hussein who kept complaining but she heard none of it.
And appearing before the Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Philip Mutua last Monday August 16, the businesswoman pleaded guilty and was sentenced.
In her inconsistent defence, she claimed that she only withdrew part of it and was still in talks with the victim on how to refund through installments.
She would then be slapped with a sh 200,000 cash bail or serve a jail sentence of two years if she fails to pay.
The incident took place in Kitengela area, Kajiado County.
