Miguna receives back his Kenyan passport after 3 years

Lawyer Miguna Miguna has acknowledged having received back his confiscated passport after two and a half years of battle with Kenya’s authorities.

The firebrand vocal barrister took to his twitter on Sunday August 30^th to announce that his legal team had fought ‘hammer and tongs’ in court until they finally managed to dig out the passport which had been taken away by government.

He even went as far as sharing the photos of the said documents already punched. They have also expired since they were issued in March 2009.

“After more than two and a half years of constant demands and presser, my lawyers eventually retrieved the perforated Kenyan passport from the High Court Registrar at Nairobi. The TRUTH cannot be hidden, or LIES peddled, forever,” Miguna wrote.

The lawyer was bundled out of the country back to Canada in February 2018 after he was accused of participating in the mock swearing in of opposition Chief Raila Odinga at Uhuru Park, Nairobi. Since then he has had a back and forth legal, verbal and physical tussle with the State which he accuses of not respecting the constitution and court verdicts as issued severally to let him jet back into the country as a normal Kenyan citizen by birth.

At one point when required to explain why Miguna was yet to be allowed back, the immigration department shared that Miguna had renounced his citizenship the time he was acquiring a Canadian citizenship; a fact he contested repeatedly and even tried to come back to the country without much success. Anytime he tried, the State allegedly issues a red alert bringing his journey to a sudden end.

This has been happening despite courts, through Justice Chacha Mwita, declaring that the lawyer was a Kenyan by birth and holding any other foreign passport cannot therefore interfere with his birthright.
