Saturday, August 21, 2021 -Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has made a sharp about turn on her support for the Handshake team just a day after BBI collapsed in court room.

In her address on Saturday August 21, Governor Waiguru who was part of the Mt Kenya leadership that met in Laikipia shocked the media when she publicly stated that their region was not yet clear on who they will be supporting next; not even Raila can claim that.

“We have not settled on anyone. There have been speculations that we are leaning towards Raila Odinga. That is not true. In fact, what we are doing is pure consultations. Whoever we think will articulate our issues is the one we will support,” Waiguru stated.

The Kirinyaga governor clarified that it was still too early to make conclusions on who the region will support adding that time still allows them to have one of their own on the ballot and therefore no one should be cheated at this stage.

“Many of residents think we are divided, yes, on account that we are talking to these people who are seeking the top seat, but you will witness many of these meetings before we unite,” Waiguru added.

On her part, Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege averred that only the region will be able to pick their preference when Uhuru is officially out of office. Her sentiments were equally shared by Kiambu Governor James Nyoro.

Just afew days ago while in Nakuru with Mr. Odinga,  Waiguru was on the front line claiming that in Raila, their Mt Kenya would be happy. She went on to recount her rocky past with Odinga which she said was no more.

“If there is someone who has been on the forefront of supporting the handshake is Governor Minji Minji (her nickname). From day one when hands were shaken. I made peace. I cried. I had even sued Raila,” Waiguru recalled.

These mixed reactions from the ‘Mountain’ signals a herculean task ahead on the part of Mr. Odinga in claiming that he was sure with their 2022 backup despite efforts by Uhuru to front the ODM Party boss.
