There was broken protocol during today’s Monday August 31 virtual conference organised by Council Of governors CoG to deliberate and update on Covid-19 state, dubbed Covid-19 Virtual Conference.
During the speeches which had been arranged in order of seniority, Deputy President William Ruto was supposed to invite the head of State but unfortunately that was not the case as the mantle was handed to CoG Chairman Wycliffe Oparanya who finally invited Uhuru.
According to the happenings which were aired live on all major Tv stations in the country , Dr. Ruto was forced to cut short his speech when a technical hitch was witnessed in what was doubtfully termed as an internet breakdown. He was delivering his remarks in the half day Conference when the unusual happened.
I started a few minutes after he took over from Governor Kivutha Kibwana and his screens suddenly went dark and blank with efforts to resolve not bearing immediate fruits. This then completely interfered with his half way speech.
“I want to start by thanking the President for his steadfast leadership in mobilizing both state and non-state actors in responding to this pandemic. This coordinate effort has produced results that now we are talking about flattening the curve.”
“You Excellency, some very difficult decisions have had to be made. But it is fair to say that Kenyans in their majority have responded to the government decisions and complied with the safety measures that have been put in place…,” the speech went.
It has been long since the DP was involved in such High Profile State meeting involving the head of State with whom they have severed ways.
In many instances, the second in command has been sidelined and when asked about it, he has been quick to state that the president is the one who decides who to invite in any meeting.
On recent show with Joe Ageyo on Citizen Tv, Ruto admitted being sidelined in day to day running of the State activities.
