Sunday, October 22, 2023 –A lady who moved to the United States of America U.S.A many years back has renounced her Kenyan citizenry.
Media outlets established on Sunday October 22 that Lucy Chege who has been in the U.S.A for at least 16 years joined 29 other foreigners from across the world to swear allegiance to the U.S Constitution.
The group swore an oath of Allegiance to the U.S Constitution during an event held at at César E. Chávez National Monument in Keene on Friday October 20.
Bakersfield Californian newspaper reported that it was a requirement for the group to renounce their motherland for them to be granted the full U.S permanent citizenship.
This function was presided over by W. Patrick Lujan who is the acting director at Frenso Field Office of the U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services.
“I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen, so help me God,” they stated as a chorus during the oath taking exercise.
Lujan would then officially welcome the foreigners to the United States of America for recognition as true and permanent citizens.
“On behalf of the United States Immigration and Citizenship Services, we’re honored to welcome you as our newest citizens of the United States,” he declared.
And making this confession to the media outlets, Ms Chege – a Kenyan – proudly stated that she was happy to be an American.
“I’m no longer a Kenyan. It’s not an easy thing,” she explained, according to Bakersfield Californian.
The professional nurse expressed her happiness at finally securing the citizenship of a country she had lived in for more than 16 years.
