Thursday, July 21, 2022 –Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition flagbearer, Raila Odinga, has confessed that his age will not allow him to actively remain in politics after this August election.
Speaking with British Broadcasting Corporation BBC on Thursday July 21, the coalition boss revealed that this year’s election marks his last and that next elections, whether in power or out, he will not contest.
He nonetheless clarified that he will be willing to make his contributions from outside should anyone in government seek his noble advice.
“I’ve been out of active politics but the African Union appointed me as the High Representative on infrastructure and it kept me very busy,” he said.
The former premier who is now 77 years old first contested the presidency in 1997 losing to the late former president Daniel Moi, in 2002 he supported the late Mwai Kibaki and in 2007 he lost to the same Kibaki.
Furthermore, in 2013 and 2017, Mr. Odinga was defeated by President Uhuru Kenyatta who had paired up with William Ruto under their dynamic umbrella of Uhuruto.
In another interview last month, Odinga confessed that should Ruto beat him fair and square, he will concede and wish him well. He has however, challenged Dr. Ruto to also come clean on this matter should he(Ruto) lose the election.
