Friday, February 2, 2024 –Plans to sneak former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati into another powerful office have been revealed.
In a hard-hitting expose’ made today from Nairobi, it was claimed that the current administration was busy positioning Mr. Chebukati to take over the Chief Justice office.
Opposition chief Raila Odinga who was first to make the claims, today Friday February 2, noted that President William Ruto’s new scheme is to make sure Chebukati takes over the Judiciary so that he (Chebukati) can easily be manipulated by the executive.
Raila further stated that, plans are underway to appoint Chebukati and other former IEBC officials into the Judiciary and, later on, Chebukati will be elevated to become the chief justice before the 2027 general elections.
This will help Mr. Ruto to always win cases anytime he is sued for his excesses and that these are some of the signs the opposition warned against before the defiant Martha Koome and President Ruto held a ceasefire meeting at the Statehouse.
“Mr. Ruto, after filling the executive with incompetent and questionable allies, is now focused on doing the same with the Judiciary. Unfortunately, the chief justice is gladly smiling along and playing the ball,” Odinga stated.
Odinga wondered why the CJ was buying the falsehood that the executive will provide additional funding to the Judiciary and, in return, Ruto to get his men into the judicial system.
“That’s a coverup, judiciary does not draw any funding from the executive or Statehouse.
“The scheme is further meant to transfer certain judges from the courts to the IEBC so that Ruto has a grip on the courts and the election management body as well,” he added.
Among the people Odinga listed as being on the list to join the Judiciary are former IEBC Chief Justice Ahmed Isaac Hassan and his successor Wafula Chebukati.
The ODM Party leader said, the two will be appointed the Court of Appeal judges according to the plans that have since been sealed between the CJ and the executive.
The opposition honcho said this arrangement spells a great danger to the rule of law and the entire country; and that it is an elaborate plan to enjoin the Judiciary and the executive after they recently held their ‘ill-advised meeting’ at the Statehouse.
Days ago, Martha Koome who was addressing stakeholders meeting, distanced herself from the claims that their meeting with Ruto is meant to water down the strength of the Judiciary.
