Thursday, September 8, 2022 –Amason Kingi Jeffah of Kenya Kwanza has won Senate speaker seat after attracting a total of 46 votes.
His easy victory was informed by the fact that Azimio la Umoja Candidate Kalonzo Musyoka withdrew last minute throwing Azimio-allied senators into total confusion.
The Thursday September 8 exercise which succeeded the swearing in of all the elected and nominated leaders saw Mr. Kingi get immense support from his camp.
Kingis’ fast win was attributed to his party’s affiliation with the William Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance UDA Party.
UDA, for instance, has a majority of 37 senators who include 26 elected and nominated. This number includes UDM senators.
George Bush, Isaac Aluochier Polo, George Njoroge Kuria, Beatrice Kathomi, and Fredrick Karuri Muchiri were also contesting for the seat.
Yesterday Wednesday September 7, both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza leaders convened parliamentary group PG meetings with their elected leaders to strategize ahead of the crucial house elections.
Azimio wing saw outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta, Azimio leader Raila Odinga and ex-running mate Martha Karua rally their troops behind Wipre’s Kalonzo Musyoka.
Today Mr. Kingi won absolute majority on round one to become the Senate Speaker after Kenneth Lusaka’s term expired two months ago.
