Friday, July 14, 2023 –Political experts have advised President William Ruto to demonstrate mature leadership by compromising with the opposition, where this can possible.
Professor Herman Manyora, while discussing national politics and the state of the Nation on NTV with Ben Kitili on Thursday July 13 night, said between Ruto and Raila, the former stands to be blamed most should anything go wrong in the country.
He claimed that, unlike Raila, Ruto not only took oath to be the president, but he also lifted the Holy Bible to safeguard the nation from signs of collapse and attack.
Manyora added that, President Ruto should not be waiting for Raila to tone down first because the burden of the country lies in the hands of the head of State more than the opposition or anybody else.
“Ruto has a greater responsibility than Raila to ensure we have Kenya tomorrow. When the country goes down and history is written, it will say the country collapsed under President Ruto’s watch.,” the political analyst and professor of Political science Mr. Manyora explained.
He further wondered what the two persons are fighting for when what they are differing on is something they can sort out over a cup of tea.
“If we continue with this trajectory, we can lose this country. This thing could get out of hand because the situation is bad and getting worse by day.
“Ruto should be the bigger brother. History will indict Ruto because it will be said that this country went down under Ruto’s watch.
“Once Moi said, being president is not easy. You are provoked all the time and if you are that high-tempered leader, you could break the country in a second,” he noted.
The professor urged the two to stop being both proud at each other but, instead, settle down and listen to each other in an adult and gentleman’s way; not for themselves but by looking at the bigger picture of the country.
On the cost of living, Prof Manyora noted that this government can bring down the cost of living by slashing off a few unnecessary taxes added by brokers on basic services and products.
His sentiments were partly echoed by Dismus Mokua, a fellow analyst, who said, though, the cost of living is high globally, Kenya Kwanza administration has demonstrated competency and capacity in addressing the matter locally.
Mokua took issue with Odinga’s timing wondering, when did the opposition led by Mr. Odinga realize the country was in bad situation.
