Saturday, October 19, 2024 –Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has declared that Mt. Kenya Region will be backing Mr. Kalonzo Musyoka in 2027.
Speaking on Friday, Mr. Waititu noted that Mt. Kenya is living with great regret supporting President William Ruto for five years and said, this was a mistake that will not repeat.
He promised to start mobilising and sensitizing the region against the current sitting President so that in the next general election, he(Ruto) will not get any numbers from there.
The former county boss for Kiambu who was addressing mourners in Kathiani, Machakos County, admitted that Mt. Kenya did blunder in last elections because President Ruto has shown his true colours and hate for their community.
“We are the ones who campaigned for Ruto when we were in the United Democratic Alliance. You might remember the promises that were told at the time. Turns out they were lies. Even the men of cloth were hoodwinked, you can remember all that he said,’’ Waititu stated.
He pointed out a number of promises Ruto has failed to honour among them being to respect the Mt. Kenya people as well as to improve the overall national economy.
“He said that there would be no more extra-judicial killings, he added that during his reign there would be not even a single individual that would be touched by the police or even the demolitions. He promised that when we were with him but when he assumed office, he became someone else’’.
Recounting a number of instances former head of State Uhuru Kenyatta warned them not to bank there hope on Ruto, Mr. Waititu confessed that many are regretting for ignoring the wise counsel.
According to the politician, Mt. Kenya People have since given up with Ruto’s leadership despite voting him to man in the 2022 election.
He added that, it is time, the region starts charting its own way ahead of the next poll and urged Wiper Party boss Kalonzo Musyoka to work with their community since he stands a better chance of being supported by the disgruntled vote-rich region.
