Wednesday, May 24, 2023 –Mrs Anne Nderitu now says she is not taking sides at the Office of Registrar of Political Parties ORPP following intensified wrangles in Jubilee Party.
On Wednesday, May 24, the registrar distanced herself from taking political sides in making decisions concerning the leadership in the troubled former ruling party, Jubilee.
For that matter, she stated that a legal team had been formed to investigate all the documents from Jubilee leaders recently submitted on her desk.
Nderitu, who, today Wednesday May 24, was reacting to intensified pressure from the opposition, noted that the newly-formed legal team will also comb through the Uhuru Kenyatta’s National Delegates Convention NDC Monday’s meeting and decide whether it was held lawfully or not.
She went on to explain that a decision to authenticate the new party leadership – Sabina Chege as party leader and Kanini Kega as Secretary General – was attributed to the existing fair legal interpretation.
“We have our legal team looking at those documents and other matters involving the party. The leaders should put their political differences aside so that we can make a lawful decision,” she stated.
Ms Nderitu added that the Kega-Chege faction had adhered to legal guidelines in submitting their documentation and that they had done everything transparently and above board.
“We only confirm whether the process and they have followed their own party constitution and they have also followed the Political Parties Act. So, the decision is actually not ours,” Nderitu added.
Earlier today, the Raila Odinga’s-led raging opposition brigade piled pressure at the registrar to leave office saying that she was taking orders from the ruling party to harm Azimio constituent parties.
The opposition led by Jeremiah Kioni accused Nderitu of faking documents to appease their rivals by ratifying Kioni’s removal from office.
