Tuesday, July 4, 2023 – More than 20 persons were left with critical injuries after a bus filled with passengers overturned along Nakuru-Kericho Highway on Tuesday July 4.
Speaking to the media immediately after the incident, an official from ENA Coach Company said those who had been injured had been rushed to nearby facilities for treatment.
“It is true the accident occurred when the bus was heading to Kericho from Nairobi. Passengers suffered minor injuries and were rushed to Londiani Hospital,” the official stated.
Among those who were injured are students who were going back to school following the winding up of their midterm period.
Police arrived to help rescue tens of victims as the reason for the Tuesday afternoon accident remained unconfirmed.
Kenya Red Cross, in its initial update, said the accident occurred at Mau Summit Junction along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
“An accident involving a PSV has occurred at Mau Summit Junction along Nakuru-Eldoret Highway. 14 casualties have been evacuated to Londiani Hospital. The the operation is still on going,” Kenya Red Cross stated.
The ENA Bus Coach accident occurred a few kilometres from the tragic Londiani accident scene where a truck rammed parked matatus claiming 52 lives among them roadside traders.
The driver of the trailer, speaking from hospital bed yesterday Monday July 6, claimed that the braking system failed hence causing the fatal crash that eventually involved multiple cars and motorcycles.
The driver is still in hospital.
