Friday, March 24, 2023 –Kisii Governor Simba Arati has indicated his unwillingness to participate in the ongoing Azimio la Umoja demonstrations.
On Friday, March 24, while speaking in Kisii, the first-time governor urged President William Ruto not to focus on the Raila’s demonstrations and, instead, aim his energy on service delivery to the people.
He advised President Ruto not to involve himself into confrontational politics now that he is the head of State and the commander in chief.
Mr. Arati made the statements minutes after Ruto and his allies had, during a rally at Kitutu Chache in Kisii County, hit out at Raila over the demonstrations against the current government.
The governor seized the opportunity to acknowledged Ruto as the sitting President of the republic and promised to work with him for development reasons.
“You are now the President and you should feel at home. When people engage in a demonstration down here, just look from afar because you are already up there,” Arati stated.
Arati was responding to sentiments from Ruto who had dared the opposition leader – Raila Odinga – for another fierce 2027 battle which he said will be another befitting beating on Raila.
“I told you I will beat that man; did I beat him or not…?
“Touts did not work on Monday as well as traders, boda bodas, and kiosk owners. What are you asking them? If you have a problem, face me. Stop disturbing citizens,” Ruto stated.
On the other hand, Arati called upon Ruto not to appoint former allies of Raila some of whom are now ageing and need to exit stage.
He gave an example of his predecessor Mr. James Ongwae and many others.
