Monday, September 23, 2024Central Organisation of Trade Union COTU boss Francis Atwoli has asked the DCI to arrest Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for insubordination.

Speaking today Monday September 23, the trade leader said, it is wrong for someone who should be running the country in the absence of the president to organise rallies and incite supporters against the same government he is serving in.

Atwoli, in the speech, noted also that the position of a deputy requires to be amended in the Constitution so that elected presidents can appoint and fire their assistants at will. This, he said, will make the deputy remain subservient to his boss throughout.

“The position of deputy must remain of appointment. We would not be having this circus today. We have to change the laws so that deputies are made president appointees and not running mate because most of them, after elections, think they are also presidents,” Atwoli stated.

The trade unionist reminisced the KANU days when such errant individuals would be arrested, punished and sacked by the president, any time.

“Gachagua now thinks he is also the president. He is now on top of his cars misleading the country. He must be arrested,” charged Mr. Atwoli.

Atwoli who has been in support of President Ruto’s leadership joined Kenya Kwanza immediately after 2022 elections.

Asked why he had to change his loyalty after the elections, he defended the move saying, he had already prepared the opposition on the same issue.
