Some were taken to Ichuni Mission Hospital and Gucha Hospital with early medical reports indicating that they had severe abdominal discomfort and diarrhea.
The Rigoma Ward MCA Nyambega Gisesa noted that the response time was quick, even as the case comes just weeks after a similar one in Kakamega and Vihiga counties.
“Following a suspected case of usage of contaminated water and food poisoning at Amabuko Secondary School, our medics at Keroka Hospital are offering services to the affected students. There are adequate medical supplies and our well-trained personnel are handling the emergency,” he stated.
Of recent, most boarding schools have been facing health challenges some turning fatal to learners and teachers.
For instance, in Kakamega County, Mukumu Girls High School lost a number of students over food-related poison. A female teacher was also confirmed dead over the same reason.
This triggered Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu to make drastic management changes at the institution.
The school principal was changed and the school had to also hire services of qualified clinical officers as well as a nurse to help monitor the health standards of learners.
St. Theresa’s Eregi Girls High School, weeks ago, sent home its students after an outbreak of an unknown disease in the school.
Parents who had been kept in darkens stormed the school and demanded answers from the principal.
They broke into the Principal’s office and sought to know the whereabouts of their children who had been quietly taken to hospital.
