Sunday, August 22, 2021 -Central Organization of Trade Union COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has lambasted Deputy President William Ruto for fighting the Building Bridges Initiative BBI.
While being interviewed by the Standard paper, Mr. Atwoli on Saturday August 21 gave his views on the verdict recently delivered by the Court of Appeal on BBI. He claimed that it is yet to be ‘over until it is over’ adding that Ruto should be the last person to celebrate the recent judgement because their is an uphill task awaiting for him ahead.
He added that there is no way BBI was going to be completely buried before it is implemented either wholly or partly. He also said there was a deliberate plan being put in place on how this is going to be smoothly done.
“With or without the Building Bridges Initiative, we cannot afford to gamble with the presidency. As far as I am concerned, DP Ruto will never become the president of this country. We cannot have a president insulting poor Kenya’s by urging them to embrace wheelbarrows yet he’s flying around in choppers, “Atwoli said.
He also took issue with Ruto’s Hustler narrative which he described as an open insult to millions of Kenyans who don’t want to be associated with poverty of pushing wheelbarrows the rest of their lives.
He lauded both former Premier Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta for putting aside their personal and political differences for the sake of the nation what he termed as a great sacrifice any leader can do for the people.
On his side, Deputy President William Ruto who held a press briefing at his Karen home on Saturday evening, faulted those pushing for the Constitutional amendments at the time the country was having several other challenges which need urgent attention.
