Wednesday, August 17, 2022 –Central Organisation of Trade Union COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has responded to claims by United Democratic Alliance UDA Party luminaries that he was planning to quit activism.
Reacting on claims made by UDA,s Dennis Itumbi on social media, Atwoli said he cannot be planning to leave office just because William Ruto had won the August 9 election. He clarified that COTU is not a personal property and now that he is serving his last term, he will be leaving by virtue of that alone and not what Itumbi was busy propagating.
The long-serving trade unionist went further to clarify that the meeting he had convened at his home today Wednesday August 17 was about the burial of his staff member and not about his exit.
“This is a sad moment for us following the death of Bro. Isiah Kubai who was the GS of BIFU. We have called for a meeting to conduct a fundraiser in preparation for the burial on Friday in Meru. Because you (Itumbi) come from those sides you should join us instead of peddling lies.
“Further, matters COTU (K) leadership is a COTU (K) constitutional issue and not an Atwoli issue. As of now, I am in office serving my last term,” Atwoli further stated.
He was responding to Itumbi’s misleading reports that he(Atwoli) was in a hurry to leave office now that Ruto, with whom they do not see eye to eye, was taking power from Uhuru Kenyatta.
