Friday, August 27, 2021 -Central Organization of Trade Union COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has come to the defense of Deputy President William Ruto whose GSU security team was withdraw last Thursday August 26.
Addressing the media at COTU offices in Nairobi, Mr. Atwoli faulted any withdrawal of security from any State officer not only Ruto, saying it is against the Constitution since they all pay taxes.
In his lengthy address, Atwoli was worried that his name was being dragged into the Uhuru-Ruto fights and urged both parties to de-link him from their differences.
“If you here what MP Ngunjiri Wambugu is saying that this is what Francis Atwoli had predicted and wished for Ruto, I get disturbed because from where I come from, the community never advocates for death or plot for any,” Atwoli stated.
The Unionist further advised the president not to escalate his differences with his deputy to a level where security of any is compromised. This will ensure there are no excuses incase of anything.
“When it comes to the security of any Kenyan, we can’t compromise, and I equally don’t support what the government did, and if they were to change that security, they would have done it with the knowledge of our DP. We don’t want lame excuses being placed on the government because of the security when there are big issues facing this country,” he added.
This statement from Mr. Atwoli has caught many unaware owing to the fact that Atwoli and DP Ruto have had a long public fight where the former has ever stood his ground that the latter will never become the president of Kenya.
