Sunday, April 2, 2023 –Central Organization of Trade Union COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has professed Azimio’s ignorance during the last general election which they lost to Kenya Kwanza.
Atwoli, today, mocked both President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Premier Raila Odinga for sleeping on job during the last general elections hence leaving Ruto to take over the Statehouse with alot of ease.
Addressing the rumours about possibility of another Handshake, on Sunday, April 2, Atwoli who was revealing intrigues heading to the August 9, 2022, general election, said the Azimio brigade have themselves to blame for losing elections when it had everything at their disposal to capture power.
“At Azimio, we had everything at our arsenal plus the willpower and intention to win the presidency.
“We even isolated Ruto and forced him to the opposition.
“Uhuru was the chairman as well as president, but then Ruto outsmarted us as if we were sleeping,” Atwoli remarked.
In the Sunday speech during their Shop Stewards Preparatory Meeting held in Nairobi, the vocal trade unionist said that Ruto outmaneuvered his way up the ladder and has to be given that respect and credit both which he says, he(Ruto) deserves.
He also used the opportunity to claim that time for another Handshake is not now and that this can only happen if he intervenes in his capacity as an elder and Azimio founding member.
“Remember, I was at the forefront in forming Azimio and I have not indicated that people should have a dialogue,” Atwoli remarked.
He, therefore, warned those calling for a premature ceasefire through another Handshake to reduce speed until time for that comes, naturally.
Upto now, both sides – Raila and Ruto – have maintained that they won’t give into each other’s demands despite the increasing tension in the city and around the country.
And yesterday Saturday April 1, Mr. Odinga published his whistle blower’s report showing how he won the election by a whopping 8 million votes against William Ruto’s paltry 5 million.
However, Kenya Kwanza alliance led by President Ruto believes in their Wafula Chebukati data announced at the Bomas of Kenya on August 15.
