Sunday, April 28, 2024 -Central Organisation of Trade Union COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli wants opposition Leader Raila Odinga to pass the mantle to Kalonzo Musyoka.

On Sunday April 28, while addressing in the Labour Day Thanks Giving prayers held at ACK Church Jogoo Road, Atwoli noted that, heading towards September 2022 elections, he clearly indicated to the Azimio leader Raila Odinga and Azimio chairman Uhuru Kenyata that Kalonzo should be the one to take over as Odinga was now aging.

He also shared that, after losing the 2022 elections to William Ruto of Kenya Kwanza outfit, he has only had a single meeting with Mr. Odinga in which he made things clear on his next move.

Atwoli further said his quick change of loyalty from Odinga to Ruto was informed by the fact that he had, earlier, warned the former that should he lose elections, he(Atwoli) would bolt out to the rival faction that forms the government.

“In our last meeting after the election, I asked Kalonzo to lead the opposition because Raila had tried enough,” Atwoli spoke of the endorsement.

The vocal trade unionist told congregants that he is nolonger interested in associating himself with the opposition politics because the work he doers must have the blessings of the sitting government.

“When Azimio lost elections, I told Raila and Uhuru that Ruto was smarter than us. I could not understand how a sitting president could not deliver the presidency to Raila,” Mr. Atwoli explained.

Atwoli was speaking this in the presence of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka who did not confirm nor deny the claims from Atwoli.

Kalonzo is, however, already going round the country to solidify his political ground even as Odinga moves to the African Union AUC campaigns.
