Saturday, September 2, 2023 –Central Organisation Trade Union COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli hs slammed Raila Odinga over last year’s August general election.

In a Saturday September 2 fierce tradeoff at the burial service of Chairman COTU Rajab Mwondi today in Hamisi Vihiga, Atwoli told Raila in the face that carelessness and lack of seriousness cost him the presidency for the fifth time.

ODM Deputy party leader Wycliff Oparanya, Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli and Azimio Chief Raila Odinga during the burial ceremony of former Cotu chairman Rajab Mwondi in Vihiga county on September 2, 2023

He wondered how they worked day and night to elbow Ruto from the inner circle of Jubilee government only to be dealt a big blow by the same person they though had lost direction.

“We pushed Ruto out of the system and we had all it takes to ensure we take the government but we failed,” Atwoli said.

Atwoli reminded Mr. Odinga and his team that it is now too late to think about removing Ruto even in 2027.

“Ruto beat us in our own game and today he is running a full government. I had to confess his ability in politics and am just wondering where Raila will get the stamina to remove Ruto from Statehouse any other day,” he added.

Mudavadi, who was also present in the same burial event, chided Odinga by telling him that IEBC never votes, it’s the people who vote and, therefore, complaining about Chebukati was a misunderstanding on how things work in the electoral system.

In response, Odinga sent Atwoli to Ruto to stop misusing the power by threatening some people he differs with.

He referenced to the sustained ‘mambo ni matatu’ phrase by Dr.  Ruto who has threatened to firmly deal with some unnamed individuals.

Raila said it is time the country wants to move on in peace and not through leadership threats from a man who should be patriotic.

“Mtu anakuja alafu anatisha watu anasema ati wewe utahama, nitakuweka jela au utaenda kwa Mungu, hayo ni mazungumzo ya aina gani? he posed what translates to:

(Someone comes and tells you you have to leave; he will put you in jail or you will go to heaven. What kind of talk is that?)

“Sasa Kenya hii imekuwa ni yake anakuambia wewe toka na umezaliwa hapa Kenya hii, uhame uende wapi? Hiyo ni utawala wa aina gani hio?” Raila added.

Mr. Atwoli moved to William Ruto’s side immediately he learnt that the former and organised deputy president had won the election against Azimio which boasted of full backing from the siting president, by then Uhuru Kenyatta.

This is despite announcing in public rallies that Ruto will never be president and that he will hang self on August 9 unless trees are cut down in his compound of Surgoi.

Atwoli had also told Moses Wetang’ula and Musalia Mudavadi that they will have no where to hide on the election results’ day.

In a past clip still doing rounds on socials, the COTU boss chided the two saying they will not have an escape route.
