Wednesday, July 26, 2023 –Azimio la Umoja has taken issue with a move by President William Ruto to make an invitation to Raila Odinga through a mere tweet on social media.
Reacting to this, shortly, after President Ruto tweeted from Tanzania where he had traveled for an official duty, Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi has expressed his disappointment with way this invitation was made.
According to the Ugunja lawmaker, President Ruto’s invitation to the ODM Party leader was made in a casual manner that signifies someone who is not serious with leadership.
“Ruto must respect Baba, inviting him via a tweet is disrespectful,” said Wandayi speaking on Ramogi FM radio on Wednesday morning.
On Tuesday July 25 evening, President Ruto took to Twitter handle, noting that he is open to holding a one-on-one talk with the opposition chief once he jets back from Tanzania where he had traveled for a human capital meeting.
“My friend Raila Odinga, I am off to Tanzania for a human capital meeting to harmonise the expansion of employment opportunities in our continent,” read the tweet that gathered too much heat.
But MP Wandayi has responded to Ruto’s olive branch extension by saying it was impolite for the president to do this on social media.
The Ugunja MP also stated that the Azimio la Umoja coalition is prepared to hold talks with the government but this must be done in not only a respectful manner but also mature.
And speaking on thier planned protests, he stated that, as a coalition, they have planned to have this marked today evening so that families which lost their loved ones can feel recognized.
A section of Kenyans have been taking on their social platforms with varied observations on the looming Raila-Ruto meeting.
Mostly those allied to the ruling party think that Odinga is hellbent on manufacturing a crisis so that to share government cake through the back door.
For instance, on Tuesday July 25 night, Principal Secretary Foreign Affairs Koror Sing’oei told his host on NTV that there was no crisis in the country which can warrant an intervention from international community.
He added that the Raila Odinga-led faction was just creating one so that to force this government to heed to their illegal demands.
